Running Assessment

If you enjoy running but feel pain/stiffness is limiting you, or just want to look at ways of improving your efficiency overall then a running assessment is perfect for you.

Running is a great way to stay active however recreational and competitive running injuries are very common, with up to 90% of runners training for a marathon experiencing an injury! Most of these running injuries are caused by training errors, muscle imbalances or technique factors.

While many other sports, such as swimming, have a significant focus on technique training, until recently, treatment of running injuries is often focused more on the local treatment of the affected area AFTER the injury occurs, rather than addressing the factors that CAUSE these injuries.

By proactively changing the aspects of your running mechanics you’ll expend less energy, enjoy better biomechanical alignment, reduce the risk of injury and improve your running performance!

Benefits of a running assessment

  • Improve your running performance and reduce the likelihood of injury

  • Improve the biomechanics of how you run, helping training to feel easier

  • Improve functional strength for running and the bodies ability to withstand loads involved

How does a running assessment work?

Improved Core Strength: Pilates focuses on strengthening the core muscles—those around the abdomen, lower back, and hips. For children, this can translate into better posture, improved balance, and enhanced coordination.

Enhanced Flexibility: Regular Pilates practice helps to increase flexibility. For children, this can support healthy physical development and reduce the risk of injuries.

Better Posture: Pilates exercises encourage proper alignment and body awareness, which can contribute to better posture. Good posture is especially important for growing children, as it can prevent strain and discomfort.

Increased Body Awareness: Pilates develops coordination and muscle control. Children practicing Pilates learn to be more aware of their bodies, which can improve coordination and motor skills.

Stress Relief and Emotional Well-being: Physical activity, including Pilates, is known to reduce stress and improve mood. For children, this can mean better focus in school and more balanced emotional health.

We can also provide physiotherapy treatment to help prevent and manage all kinds of running related injuries, at all ages and at all levels of ability.

Common running injuries we can treat are:

  • Runners Knee (patellofemoral syndrome)

  • Achilles Tendonitis

  • IT Band Syndrome

  • Shin splints

  • Plantar Fasciitis
